Members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church across England and Wales recently supported thousands of police officers during National Police Appreciation Week, a nationwide initiative recognising the dedication and service of frontline responders.
The initiative was delivered by the Rapid Relief Team (RRT), a volunteer organisation operated by Plymouth Brethren members, in partnership with the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC).
Throughout the week, RRT volunteers visited police stations across the country to provide refreshments and thank officers for their service to local communities.
A total of 270 welfare events took place over five days, reaching thousands of police officers working in forces across England and Wales. The events provided an opportunity for officers to take a short break, connect with colleagues and feel recognised for the work they carry out every day.
Police officers play an important role in communities across the UK, often working in challenging and demanding circumstances to protect the public and respond to incidents at all hours of the day and night.
Police Appreciation Week builds on the longstanding support provided by RRT volunteers to emergency services across the country.
Over the past decade, volunteers have provided practical assistance during emergencies, major incidents and community events, as well as supporting police, fire and ambulance personnel through welfare initiatives. The charity also delivers the annual A&E Appreciation Week, recognising healthcare staff working on the frontline of emergency care.
These initiatives provide Plymouth Brethren members with an opportunity to thank emergency service workers and recognise the important role they play in communities throughout the United Kingdom.
Reflecting on Police Appreciation Week, Ross Norman, RRT UK Head of Operations, said:
“Police officers across the UK work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. They often do so in the most difficult circumstances, under intense pressure and public scrutiny.
“Figures show just how many officers experience stress, anxiety or low mood linked to their work.
“Police Appreciation Week is an opportunity to take a step back, recognise their efforts on the frontline, and thank them for their commitment and hard work in protecting the public.
“Supporting officer wellbeing and morale is essential to ensuring policing can continue to protect the public effectively. We are proud to work alongside the National Police Chiefs’ Council to deliver this nationwide initiative and support thousands of officers across the country.”
