The Markham Family

Transcript:

Hello, my name is Evie. Welcome to Markham Family. We’re Ross and Charlotte Markham. I was born and bred in a little town called Godalming in Surrey. My wife Charlotte was born in Evesham in Worcestershire. We got married in 2003, and I moved down to go Godalming where we had a daughter in 2004. And from there we moved to Hereford in 2006, and we spent 18 happy years here in a wonderful community, where we’ve had three further daughters.

We’ve also started a business, Bull Products, doing fire safety equipment, and we’ve been able to employ a number from the community and bring the family members into the business, too.

Watching the Markham kids grow up. It’s been so lovely. You know, you see them as young children running around the office doing the paintings. You get out the coloured markers and then, you know, we’ve got Bianca working for us now, she’s doing marketing, she’s doing a great job, she’s turned into a beautiful young woman and it’s lovely you kind of feel just a little part of that, actually.

Yeah, you feel like a part of the family, and I think that’s what makes it special working for them.

That’s true and I know companies say, oh, it’s a lot like a family, but actually it’s not. But actually, here it is. You know, when I joined, they’re only 20 people. There’s not really 200. But I still feel a special, you know, and Charles must still come over they ask me how I am, how my husband is, how the dog is, you know, they always have time for you I think that’s when I joined.

It’s a very special touch.

I think anybody who’s joined the company, I mean, you know, we’ve got no turnover, I mean, everybody’s been here for a long time so particularly for me, it’s the Markham’s they’ve just been so good to all of us, to everybody in the company.

Yeah, more than most gracious, they’re very nice.

It’s just kind, considerate, it’s just lovely. You know, it’s really how people should be.

I think it’s the kindness and the niceness they’re always so lovely to talk to we obviously look after them, The Brethren with their businesses and we do their corporate events and we look after them there, we look after their staff, and they really do know how to put a spread on. Everyone looks forward to it and we look forward to putting a spread on for them. We’ve known Ross and Charlotte for a number of years now they’ve obviously been our neighbours and very lovely people. The daughters are lovely, always polite. We really enjoy having them as neighbours. It will be a sad day when they eventually, if they decide to leave that’s how we feel.
